COMFORT STAND FIRSTが東京・一番町にオープンした。スペシャルティコーヒーを提供するCOMFORT STANDの旗艦店であり、オーナーであるビル管理会社のサテライトオフィスでもある。

計画地の半蔵門駅周辺は、オフィス街でありながら集合住宅や学校も立ち並ぶ。この街の「働く人と暮らす人のどちらの居場所もある」という性格は、リラックスと集中の両立を目指したこのカフェに通じるものがあると感じた。自然と「ベビーカーを押す親子とスーツ姿のビジネスマンが並んで歩くこの街の景色を、そのままカフェの中に引き込みたい」と考えるようになった。

私たちは、「おいしそうな素材」を集めることからデザインをはじめた。からだが直感的に心地良いと感じる素朴な素材、その中でもおいしそうな食べ物に見える素材をそう呼んだ。パウンドケーキの断面を思わせるテラゾーや、ビスケットのようなタイルを手や目に触れやすいところに配した。どんなシチュエーションであっても、ふとした瞬間に感じる心地良さが空間の居心地につながると考えたからだ。

オープンしてみると、書類片手に商談するビジネスマンやノートPCで作業するクリエイター、子どもの帰りを待つ父親、赤ちゃんを連れたママ会など、働く人と暮らす人が同じ空間を共有するようになった。それはこの街の人たちによく似合っていて、ほんの少しユーモアのある風景でもあった。

空間はシンプルで素直な状況を目指した。淡いグレーの壁は昼は白く明るく、夜には落ち着いた雰囲気を醸し、時間の移ろいを感じさせる。家具やペンダント照明、ドアハンドルに至るまで制作し、クラフトマンシップのあるディテールを心掛け、私たちが大事にしている「ふつうの、日々のためのデザイン」を丁寧につくり上げた。

COMFORT STAND FIRST Opens in Ichibancho, Tokyo

COMFORT STAND FIRST, the flagship store of COMFORT STAND—a specialty coffee brand—has opened in Ichibancho, Tokyo. The space also functions as a satellite office for the building management company that owns it.

Located near Hanzomon Station, the area is primarily a business district, yet it also features residential buildings and schools. We felt that the area’s character—where both working professionals and local residents coexist—aligned well with the concept of our café, which aims to balance relaxation and focus. Naturally, we began to envision a space that could draw the city’s everyday scenes inside the café: a parent pushing a stroller and a suited businessman walking side by side.

Our design process began with collecting what we called “delicious-looking materials”—simple, intuitive textures that feel good to the body and evoke the look of appetizing food. We used terrazzo reminiscent of a sliced pound cake and biscuit-like tiles placed where they could easily be touched or seen. We believed that creating small moments of comfort—regardless of the situation—would lead to a truly welcoming space.

Since opening, the café has become a shared space for a wide range of people: businesspeople negotiating over documents, creatives working on laptops, fathers waiting for their children to return from school, and mothers with babies gathering for casual meetups. The scene reflects the character of the neighborhood perfectly—and even carries a subtle sense of humor.

We aimed for a space that is simple and honest. The soft gray walls appear bright and white in the daytime, while creating a calm atmosphere in the evening—allowing guests to feel the natural passage of time. Every element—from the furniture and pendant lights to the door handles—was custom-made with an emphasis on craftsmanship. We carefully crafted the space to embody our core design philosophy: “design for ordinary days.”
